Introduction
The highlights of this
remarkable little hotel are to be found in its superb restaurant and wine
cellar, but it also boasts rooms of a highly individual and elegant character
and a handy central location. The Altwiener is run by the Kellner family
who have recently organised a major refurbishment to make theirs what
we think is the best intimate hotel in Vienna.
Location
A mile or so west of
the city centre with its preponderance of historic buildings, the Altwienerhof
is closer still to the Westbanhof train station and on the right side
of town for easy access to the airport.
Bedrooms
Each room and suite is
decorated in elegant old Viennese style, though all retain an individual
feel. As well as the usual facilities you'd expect, some rooms come with
luxurious double baths. All rooms have satellite TV.
Restaurants
The Altwiener's restaurant
has been showered with awards for both its cuisine, which is masterminded
by Rudi Kellner, and its wine cellar, which boasts nearly 20,000 bottles
of some of the finest wines to be found this end of the solar system.
Once in a while, Rudi invites guests and diners to an August Escoffier
Gala night, a gastronomic experience of wonder and awe. The next one is
scheduled for March 26th 2000. In the summer, diners can enjoy Rudi's
creations in the Altwiener's pretty fairytale garden.
