Introduction
The Hoffmeister bills
itself as 'Prague's personal luxury hotel', and for once the hype is matched
in reality. It really is a one-off, capturing the imagination with its
central location, pretty architecture, individual rooms and, not least,
the caricatures by Adolf Hoffmeister which adorn many of the hotel's walls.
Hoffmeister was a man of many parts; a painter, writer and diplomat as
well as caricaturist but it as the later that he is best remembered, especially
as his subjects include some of the 20th century's most famous figures,
from Salvador Dali and Bertolt Brecht to Pablo Picasso and James Joyce.
Location
The Hoffmeister is on
the castle side of the River Vltava, a few hundred metres below the castle
itself and within easy reach of the city's most important cultural sites
as well as the main shopping areas.
Bedrooms
Rooms come in a delightfully
wide range of colours and decorative styles. Each has satellite TV, mini-bar
and climate control. There are also five suites for those hankering after
that extra bit of space.
Restaurants
Czech and international cuisine is lovingly prepared at the Ada restaurant,
while lighter meals are dished out at the Café Ria which boasts a summer
terrace. Drinkers are well catered for in the atmospheric, underground
Bar Lily.
