Hotel des Indes is not just a place to stay, it is also a history
lesson. It first opened in 1856 as a townhouse for Baron van Brienen,
private advisor to King Willem III. After the Baron's death,in 1877,
it was revamped as a hotel. Guests since then include Bing Crosby,
President Roosevelt and German occupying troops in World War II
who were unaware that people were hiding from them under the roof.
Today regular guests often book the same room, thus adding their
