Introduction
The Hotel des Indes is not just a place to stay, it is also a history lesson. It first opened in 1856 as a townhouse for Baron van Brienen, private advisor to King Willem III. After the Baron's death,in 1877, it was revamped as a hotel. Guests since then include Bing Crosby, President Roosevelt and German occupying troops in World War II who were unaware that people were hiding from them under the roof. Today regular guests often book the same room, thus adding their own personal history to the hotel.

Location
The Hotel des Indes is located at the heart of the governmental and diplomatic districts. In case you are not trying to schedule lunch with a prime minister, the hotel is also surrounded by museums, theatres and prime shopping areas, and is in walking distance to Central Station and near motorways to Amsterdam and Rotterdam.

Bedrooms
Rooms and suites feature 24 hour room service, laundry, valet, radio, satellite TV, telephones with personal voicemail dataports, a refreshment centre, a trouser press, and in-room safe and a hair dryer.

Restaurants
Luxury dining is on tap at des Indes, via meals that helped earn the hotel a five star rating. There is also a bar open from 10.00 until 1.00 and a lounge, daily lunch and a High Tea.

Business Facilities
When the Baron van Brienen first moved in, he needed a first class ballroom for his activities. Now, that ballroom is used for official events, while the Baron's former living quarters are available for receptions, luncheons and dinners. There are also six banquet sites that can be combined in many ways for seminars or meetings.
