Location
Sticking right out of
the rock of Gibraltar itself, The Rock is in one of the most spectacular
positions of any hotel anywhere. Located on the west side of Gibraltar,
the hotel overlooks the pretty harbour and town as well as the Med and
the distant Rif mountains of Morocco. The town is about a mile to the
north; Europa Point, the southern tip of Gibraltar, is just over half
a mile to the south.
Bedrooms
Crucially, all rooms
have a sea view. Decorative style is varied but relaxed elegance is the
feel throughout. The amenities list is long and includes remote controlled
air-con, satellite TV, trouser press, coffee making facilities, mini-bar
and welcome decanters of scotch and sherry. Some rooms have a balcony.
Suites and non-smoking rooms are available, too.
Restaurant
The hotel's restaurant is renowned throughout Gibraltar as one of high
quality, not least for its panoramic views across the bay. The menu is
a winning, not to say unusual, combination of Spanish, British and North
African influences with sea-food assuming particular prominence. The Rock's
Barbary Bar, serving light meals as well as drinks, continues the colonial
theme and opens out onto the charms of the Wisteria Terrace, a beautiful
spot with, you guessed it, spectacular views. Those vistas come into play
once again with the Rock's lounges, which serve a mean, English style,
afternoon tea.
Business Facilities
Meeting rooms range from
the intimate to the spacious with room for up to 125 people. One is on
the penthouse level, another is right next to the Wisteria Room. A full
range of back-up conference equipment is available by arrangement.
