Introduction
A stunning villa hotel
with a fascinating history, the Hotel Vila Bled has an impressive range
of facilities and is set in 12 acres of countryside on the shores of Lake
Bled. Princes from imperial Austria were the first to set up home on this
site before it became the summer residence for the pre-war Yugoslav royal
family. In 1947 it was rebuilt for Josip Tito, the leader of Yugoslavia
throughout the next few decades, and was frequently visited by world statesmen
and women. Facilities include a private beach, rowing boats and tennis
court. The Vila Bled is now part of the prestigious Relais and Chateaux
group.
Location
Views from the hotel
across Lake Bled are breathtaking and include St Mary's Church on a nearby
island and the St Mary's Church which sits at the top of a huge rock,
as well as the soaring peaks of the Julian Alps. Bled itself is a centre
for winter sports and a whole variety of outdoor activities and is just
50 km (30 miles) north of Ljubljana, the Slovenian capital and 35 km from
the Brnik-Ljubljana airport.
Bedrooms
Rooms are well equipped
to high modern standards and boast the extra allure of having been kept
in their original 1950s style, plus Art Deco and Oriental adornments.
Better still, many have superb views over Lake Bled and the Julian Alps.
In addition to double rooms, four types of suite are available.
Restaurants
The hotel's main restaurant serves international cuisine with a Slovenian
twist and has a beautiful summer terrace featuring views over the lake.
The Cafe Belvedere in Vila Bled's separate pavilion is the place for lighter
meals while snacks are also available in the main building's piano bar.
Business Facilities
Two meeting rooms, one
holding 80 people, the other 24, form the basis of the hotel's business
facilities, while a wide range of back up services is also available.
