Introduction
Once a sumptuous private
mansion, the Regent Schlosshotel has recently been extravagantly refurbished
under the creative direction of Karl Lagerfeld to make it one of the best
stopovers in Berlin. Design credentials and high levels of service apart,
the Schlosshotel features a bunch of extras including a state of the art
fitness centre with pool, an underground carpark and, this is nice, free
use of push bikes with which to peruse the city.
Location
Set in the beautifully
wooded Grunewald area to the south west of the city centre, the Schlosshotel
is a short walk away from the Kurfurstendamm and the Tiergarten, and a
taxi or U-bahn ride from the sights associated with the Berlin Wall, such
as Checkpoint Charlie, as well as the picturesque old town.
Bedrooms
Let's start with the
bathrooms, as they are kitted out to a particularly high standard, roomy
with marble baths and separate showers. Like other areas of the creatively
decorated rooms, they boast under floor heating. Elsewhere, there's air-conditioning
as standard, cable TVs, VCRs (PAL and NTSC compatible), top of the range
HiFis, mini-bars and fax connections. Suites are available; one has an
open fireplace. A proportion of the rooms are located in a newly built
wing that connects to the main hotel.
Restaurants
Two classy restaurants and two superb bars make up the catering facilities
on offer at the Schlosshotel. The Vivaldi restaurant favours regional
and international cuisine while Le Jardin dishes out excellent bistro
food. The main hotel bar, Le Tire Bouchon, is a great place to sink a
few glasses of schnapps, while the Catalina Bar features an open-air area.
On top of all that, the hotel's Lobby Lounge serves up generously proportioned
afternoon teas.
Business Facilities
Six meeting rooms of
various size cater for a wide range of conferences and seminars, with
capacities running from an intimate 5 to a crowd-pleasing 200.
