Introduction
A hotel with an intriguing
history, the Port van Cleve offers good, modern facilities, entertaining
restaurants and bars and a great location. Historical snippets: The Port
van Cleve was built on the site of the very first Heineken brewery (which
operated on the site between 1864 and 1870); the hotel was the first hostelry
in Amsterdam with electric lighting; steaks have been branded with a number
since 1870.
Location
Just a few short steps
away from the Royal Palace and dam Square, the Port van Cleve is in the
beating heart of Amsterdam. The main shopping areas, restaurants, theatre's,
museums and canals are all a short stroll from the Port van Cleve. The
city's central station is five minutes wall from the hotel, outside of
which there are bus, tram and airport shuttle stops.
Bedrooms
All rooms are well decorated
in a mostly modern European style and come with full en-suite facilities.
Rooms come equiped with a private safe, modem connection, telephone with
direct dial, TV with in house movie system and messages system. There
are more spacious alternatives available in the form of junior and Presidential
suites.
Restaurants
Most famous locally as a purveyor of fine steaks, the Port van Cleve's
also boasts a nice line in international cuisine at its Brasserie 'De
Poort'. Ever since 1870, the restaurant's steaks have been numbered; the
current total stands at around 6 million. There's also 'De Blauwe Parade'
- a bodega style bar, decorated by 130 year old Delft tiles, and a coffee-shop
or lounge bar.
